Coral Sea Fishing Whitsundays: The Northern Part
The Coral Sea stretches 2,000 kilometers down the coast of Queensland. It goes beyond the traditional boundary of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, too.
So if you’ve wanted to cast a line where only a few have gone, a remote Coral Sea adventure is perfect for you!
Its boundary lies outside the Park’s outer reefs such as the Ribbons and Myrmidon Reefs, and the Swains Reef group. It further extends down to the Lady Musgrave Reef.
But, we can get more remote in North Queensland where the boundary goes beyond where the Park ends. We’re talking about the Flora and Holmes Reefs off Cairns, and the Flinders Reef toward Townsville.
Coral Sea Fishing Whitsundays: The Southern Part
The top of Breaksea Spit at Fraser Island marks the most southerly point of the Coral Sea.
You can access more remote reef destinations from the Hervey Bay (Fraser Island,) Bundaberg, and Gladstone areas. These are the Frederick, Saumarez, Kenn, and Wrecks Reefs and Cato Island.
Other notable fish you can find are Giant Trevally, Yellowfin and Dogtooth Tuna, and Wahoo.
